This time also in Brno and Pilsen

22. 9. 2015

The display of Indian cinematography is here again – Bollywood film festival! During its thirteenth year expands within the Czech Republic and this time outside Prague to Brno and Pilsen. New releases and time-proven films or interesting documents will be introduced in those cities. It will be showed that not only Hollywood likes to shoot blockbusters here.

Everyone knows Hollywood. However, Bolywood and Indian films are slowly being more and more popular in our country. The traditional Bollywood can make one cry, laugh, dance and bring lots of energy through its colourfulness. The Mumbai film studios are just one of many studios in India. There are others, regional and more likely less commercial. Nevertheless, Bollywood has been focusing on other film genres lately and by that the Indian cinematography gains remarkable diversity. The inclusion of the documentary film range is no exception at the festival. In short, everyone will be satisfied.

The three biggest Indian movie stars who have one thing in common will be introduced after quite a long time in the complete programme – their name is Khan but they are not relatives. Aamir Khan and the comedy PK will open the festival on Wednesday. The story of an alien with prominent ears became the most profitable movie in the Indian movie industry so far. Besides ammount of humour and standard bollywood attractions the movie offers a satiric view on the organized religion and the prejudice that goes along with it, which made it a brave piece of work considering the Indian multicultural area. The typical bollywood „masala“ Bajrangi Bhaijaan will be introduced by Salman Khan. Laughter, cry, dance, singing and a lot of colours will accompany the story about the relations of India and Pakistan which became the box office hit of 2015. And finally, possibly the brightest star of Bollywood, Shah Rukh Khan, will be introduced after three years! Jab Tak Hai Jaan, the adaptation for screen of Graham Green’s novel The End of the Affair, is the right sample of modern bollywood melodrama about the love of two people that can destroy their lives. Despite the intimate story the movie enchants by its spectacular pictures and thrilling musical scenes.

Not only Bollywood is being introduced in the Czech Republic, but also the Czech Republic is being introduced in the bollywood movie! Bang Bang, a high-budget remake of the hollywood action comedy Knight and Day (2010) is attractive due to the most magnificent scenes in the Indian film history and the shooting locations among which we can find Prague as well! Bollywood filmmakers are coming back to the Czech Republic (besides other movies: Rockstar, Drona).

For example, the Sunday thriller NH 10 also comes from the bollywood studios but do not expect any dance or singing. And last but not least, Jai Ho, chosen from the document selection, is a film about one of the most important Indian composers, A. R. Rahman, who has written music for 120 movies including the famous song Jai Ho from Slumdog Millionaire. He has been awarded various film awards including Golden Globes and two Academy Awards.

Do not forget to note BOLLYWOOD PARTY on October 10 into your diaries because you cannot miss it which would be a big mistake. This time at the DCS Club in the Vinohradská street.

The films that succeeded during the past years in Prague will be projected in Brno and Pilsen: English Vinglish, a comical drama about the woman position in the family of traditional values, Soodhu Kavvum, a satiric criminal comedy that became a blockbuster even without cooperation of filmstars and Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, an all-star casted bollywood road movie which belongs among the festival’s biggest hits.
