This award-winning Tamil drama takes place in the South Indian village Paruthiiur, ruled by the caste Tevar, which is desperately trying to maintain the caste hierarchy. Violence and coarse speech are a normal part of life in the village. This particular environment is also the theater for an intercaste love story between Paruthiveeran and his cousin Muthalagu, a young girl from the ruling caste. Paruthiveeran‘s father was from the Tevar caste but his marriage to a woman from a lower caste led to a falling-out with his brother, Muthalagu‘s father. The latter can never forgive him for his choice and is fi rmly against the young people‘s marriage. The couple doesn‘t see any other solution than to run away…
