The stunning historical epic by Ashutosh Gowariker, director of the fi lm Lagaan, which was nominated in 2001 for an Oscar, is the ultimate artistic depiction of the life of Mughal Emperor Akbar, who ruled India in the 16th century. The prince is thrown into his responsibilities as a sovereign at the age of six, and successfully starts building his empire from early childhood. He concludes a political marriage with the Rajputh princess Jodhaa, as part of his expansion eff orts. The marriage between the Hindu princess and the Muslim ruler puts together two utterly diff erent cultures and religions and opens an unexpected way for the Mughal monarch – the way of love.
